From Reagent Loading to Precision Dosing

Reliable reagent dosing in flue gas treatment depends on more than feeder accuracy alone. Before powdered materials such as hydrated lime, sodium bicarbonate and activated carbon reach the injection point, they must be loaded, contained and presented consistently to the dosing equipment. Each stage can influence material flow and the conditions required for consistent reagent delivery, making the wider handling process an important engineering consideration.

Enclosed Reagent Handling and Dust Containment

Positioned beneath the hopper, the screw feeder meters the reagent at a controlled and repeatable rate. Where required, an agitator mechanism within the feeder body can help maintain material movement and promote uniform filling of the screw flights. Variations in the volume of material captured between the screw flights can affect dosing consistency.

Feeder configuration is equally important. Screw geometry, rotational speed and required feed rate can all influence dosing performance, while powder characteristics such as bulk density, particle size and flow behaviour can affect how the reagent behaves during handling and feeding. Adapting the Handling Arrangement

The method used to replenish the containment cabinet can be adapted to wider plant requirements. Direct keg-tip loading provides a compact arrangement where local holding capacity is sufficient for the operating duty. For applications requiring greater storage capacity, automated transfer can incorporate upstream bulk storage and a flexible screw conveyor.

In this configuration, the conveyor provides an enclosed means of transferring powdered reagent from the storage vessel to the cabinet, reducing the need for manual replenishment. This provides flexibility for plants where reagent consumption, available space or operating practices make direct manual replenishment less practical. The containment cabinet can therefore form part of a wider automated handling system while retaining its primary role in precision reagent dosing.
